The Koldingfjord Hotel and Conference Center lies in a scenic forest area on the edge of the Kolding Fjord. The hotel building, built in 1906, previously functioned as a tuberculoses sanatorium. The architecture is characterized by the eclecticism of that time with a touch of the neo-rationalism that was becoming more and more popular.
The scheme has a right axiality and is based on a large rectangular courtyard with the main building on the north side.
It was important that the hotel's landscape had the atmosphere of a Danish manor estate. This important aim was achieved by simple means: the central courtyard was repaved. And equipped with elevated, precisely edged planting beds. These beds, together with some old magnolias, becomes its most important elements.
On either side of the courtyard is a bed with climbing scented roses. Two green houses in the courtyard are lush with grape vines and delicate roses. The site is framed by trimmed linden hedges which are to be kept in a precise form, and mark the boundary between cultivated land and forest.
