The FIH building lies on the tip of the Langelinie wharf and respects the local ordinance that all new buildings should have the same volume, and respect the materials of the protected Dahlerup Warehouse. The 25-meter deep building is pierced by large incisions, which bring light into the building and also serve as gardens. These openings are several stories high and are staggered in height in relation to one another.
The inserted gardens are landscaped with trees such as Liquidambar styraciflua, sweet gum; Hamamelis intermedia, witch hazel; Amelanchier lamarckii, Juneberry and Cornus kousa, dogwood in beds of periwinkle and crocus. The beds are irrigated and lit, so in the evening, they appear as wonderful green oases when viewed from the surrounding harbour.
