Water works as a source of inspiration and sparring partner in the project of the Postplats.
The Post office building in Malmö was originally part of a row of monumental buildings along the harbour front constructed in the beginning of the 19th century.
The almost one hundred years old building and the square in front of it will form the new entrée to the city from the Central Station facing the Northern and the Western Harbour. Postplats will be part of a link between the pedestrian connection leading to the city center.
The square is positioned near by the new University on the opposite site of the inner harbour and the Central Station. Some of the unique qualities of the square are the openness and the near by water, witch no other square in the city has. Plus that, it is a square with sun in the evening, which will make the square very popular in the cool climate. The open square can be used for several purposes, for example marked days and other events. In the granite paving, there are inlaid a water feature using water from the harbour. In winter water from the sky will fill the patterns in the paving and reflect the sun.
